Incorporated in 2003, Primary eye care centres provide excellence in eyecare in a friendly and caring environment.
Our centres, conveniently located in Burwood and Mona Vale N.S.W. incorporate optometrists, orthoptists, optical dispensers and fashion eyewear consultants.
We work closely with ophthalmologists for the treatment and management of eye diseases.
Our practices are equipped with advanced eye scanning and diagnostic equipment and we offer an extensive selection of fashion frames, sunglasses and contact lenses.

The clinics have a sub specialty interest in two areas of eye care:

Pierre Elmurr is an Orthoptist with over 20 years of experience in the management of eye conditions for children.
Working closely with primary eye care optometrist he specialises in the treatment of turned eyes and lazy eyes.
Treatment varies from eye exercises to patching and therapeutic and functional prescription of glasses.
Research and development: The commercial and research division of the clinic (Australian Institute of Sports Vision) has seen the development and global commercialization of the Sports Vision Trainer (SVT™).
This scientific instrument is used to assess and train eye hand coordination and decision making skills.
Some of our international clients include the Boston Red Sox, Chelsea FC, Johnson & Johnson Vision care Institutes in 8 countries, the New York Yankees, United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) and Red Bull Diagnostics and Training Centre.

Peter J Moore

B.Optom, M.Optom, (UNSW) MOAA, Optometrist, Contact Lens Practitioner

Peter J. Moore graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry in 1976 and a Masters of Optometry in 2004 from UNSW.
Peter has been practicing in Burwood for 40 Years.
Peter is a Past President of the Optometrist Association Australia (NSW Div.) and has held various positions on optical and government boards and committees.
These include Chairperson of the NSW Optometry Care Assessment Committee, a peer reviewer for the Health Care Complaints Commission, a panel member of the medicare professional Review Committee, Deputy Chairperson NSW Board of Optometrical Registration and a Past President of the Rotary Club of Burwood.
Peter is also a member of the Optometrists Association Australia, the Contact Lens Society of Australia and the Oceania Orthokeratology Society.

Pierre Elmurr

BAppSc (Orthoptics) MAppSc (ExerSportSc) Director Primary Eye Care Orthoptist & Sports Vision Scientist

Pierre graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Orthoptics from the University of Sydney in 1992.
He obtained a Masters in exercise and sports science by research in 1995 assessing the eye movement patterns of table tennis players.
Pierre held the title of honorary research associate at The University of Sydney prior to entering into private practice in 1999.
His clinical interest's in private practice includes sports vision, paediatrics and rehabilitation.

For the past 25 years, Pierre has conducted research assessing the role of vision training in aiding athletic performance.
He has developed a scientific approach to vision training for athletes and his model is utilised globally by eye care practitioners and sports scientist.
Pierre is the sports vision consultant to the New South Wales Institute of Sport and numerous state and national sporting teams in Australia and overseas.
Pierre is the inventor of the Sports Vision Trainer (SVT™) a scientific instrument used to test and train eye hand coordination and decision-making skills.

Caroline Kwan

B. Optom Hons. (UNSW), MOAA

Caroline completed a Bachelor of Optometry degree at The University of New South Wales in 1994.
She began her career working in a private practice in country NSW, then Canberra, before settling in Sydney and has been the principal optometrist for Primary Eye Care in Mona Vale since 2004.
Caroline enjoys a close professional relationship with the local ophthalmologists and medical practitioners.
She has spent time on radio on a talk-back program called "All About Eyes" as well as performing domiciliary visits to local nursing homes.
Her main interests are contact lenses and ocular aged-care but welcomes all challenges.

In her down-time, she is enthusiastically active in her Christian community and particularly loves the outdoors.
Her main language is English but she is also able to speak Cantonese.

Derek Chu

M.ClinOptom, B.Sci (UNSW). Ophthalmic Medicines Prescriber, MOAA.

Derek graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2018 with a Masters of Clinical Optometry and works full-time at Primary Eye Care.
In his final year of clinical placement, he developed a keen interest in ocular pathology, glaucoma co-management and myopia control.
Derek is therapeutically qualified as an ophthalmic medicines prescriber and works closely with Caroline tackling all aspects of optometry.
He is multi-lingual (English, Cantonese and Mandarin).
Derek's hobbies include participating numerous sports with a particular interest in rock-climbing and general fitness.

Gai Beswick

Gai is our office manager as well as being a qualified Optical Dispenser and Optical Mechanic with over 50 years of experience.

Valentina Roman

Valentina is a qualified Optical Dispenser with over 35 years of experience both in Australia and overseas.
